Spelling Assessment - Terms 1 & 2

During terms 1 and 2 the grade 5/6 students completed two formal spelling assessments. These assessments looked at the students ability to spell high frequency words and some unfamiliar words also. At the end of term 1, Mikayla showed that she was a confident speller. She was able to spell a number of high frequency words, and displayed an understanding that was above the standard level for a grade5 student.

Students were assessed again at the end of Term 2. Mikayla showed that her spelling ability had improved and she was able to spell a number of unfamiliar words. Great job!

Parent Comments:
I am so proud of Mikayla, she loves school and enjoys hard work.
She is ready to learn new and diffucult aspects of schooling in grade 5.

Dear Parents,
We are inviting you to share with your child their Student Portfolio. Two stars and a wish is your chance to provide comments on your child’s achievements. The two stars are for you to identify two areas, tasks or achievements that your child has made that you are particularly impressed with. The wish is an opportunity for you to note an area or skill that you hope your child will work on throughout the rest of the year.

Congratulate your child on aspects of his/her work, such as:

Their successes
Any improvements in their work
Presentation of their work
Content of their work
Their creativity
Evidence of risk taking and having a go
Reflections and understandings they have demonstrated
And other positive suggestions on how they could improve their work

Here are a few examples to get you started:

I like the way you have settled into school
I like the stories you read to us each night
I like the way you learnt your tables
Your story writing shows that you are ‘having a go’ at spelling new words
I lie the way you spoke clearly to the class
We are proud of the way you have...
We like the way you are doing your ‘Personal Best’!

And offer positive suggestions on an area your child could work on:
I hope you continue to work on your tables facts
Your handwriting is really neat. I hope you can use it when you are writing your stories.
